Skylar Grey Thanks Dr. Dre
The new voice of hip hop music is Ms. Skyler Grey. Skylar was an artist signed previously to Machine Shop Records owned by the band Linkin Park under the name Holly Brook. This signing led to her collaboration with Fort Minor on "Where'd Ya Go" in 2003. Since then she has worked with Lupe Fiasco on "Words I Never Said", Diddy's "Coming Home", she wrote the hook to Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie" and most notably "I Need A Doctor" with Dre & Em. She says her voice almost didn't make it on to the Dre track just like "Love The Way You Lie" but Eminem stepped in and veto'd the decision. The label wanted to use Lady Gaga's voice instead. She credits Dr. Dre for being one of the best, most professional, and personable people in the industry. She goes on to say that collaboration has changed her and helped define her sound. Immediately following their performance on the Grammy award, she says her twitter followers increased 6,500 within minutes. Her debut album Invincible under the name Skylar Grey is slated to be released soon and will have a few hip hop collaborations she can't reveal yet.
