The Modern Life x Prote-J Interview

With The Success Of The First Interview With Dave Raps, It Was Only Right That I Treat Yall With Another Rising Talent and He Goes By The Name "Prote-J"

Check It Out.

This guy here is one of the most underrated acts that came across my Inbox since the existence of the modern life. His word play and delivery creates a unique bridge that he tries to get over to persuade many listeners that music with purity and integrity can be featured on the radio. So with that being said, I present you Prote - J

Hello, How's Life My Man?

Life is great fam...can't complain at all. Just taking this music thing one day at a time and steadily building!

Cool Cool, it's a true honor that your Featured on The Modern Life.

Thanks for the opportunity!

So specifically how did you personally know this was your calling in life?

I pretty much grew up around music, and I taught myself how to play the guitar when I was 7. I became a part of my church's music team and went on to learn the drums, bass, and piano. Music just came natural to me so I knew it's what I was meant to do.

How did you fall in love with hip hop?

I moved back to the States when I was 12, and that's when I was truly introduced to hip hop. My cousin was into the Hot Boyz and used to play me their songs all the time. The beats were cool, but I wasn't really a fan because they talked about stretch PT Cruisers, rims, and ice in almost every song. It wasn't until I heard Jay-Z for the first time that I really fell in love with hip hop. I honestly couldn't relate to much of anything he was saying, but the way he delivered his messages and cleverly put together words really got my attention. That's when I started doing my research on hip hop and listening to artists like Biggie, Nas, Common, and Eminem.

I started writing songs when I was 9, but I always knew I didn't have much of a singing voice. Hip hop became the perfect outlet for me and since I knew how to play a bunch of instruments, I also started making beats. The rest is history!

If You Werent Doing Music, What Would You Be Doing?

I'd be curled up in the fetal position somewhere in a corner. I can't imagine my life without music, but I guess if I had to choose, I'll probably be doing something in aviation. I love to travel, and I actually got my bachelor's degree in aviation business.

Name Five Songs That Inspired You The Most and Why.

This is a really tough question. I've been inspired by so many songs for different reasons and I honestly can't think of 5 of the most inspirational right now, but I'll give you five of my favorites over the years (in no particular order). Remember the time - Michael Jackson (my favorite music video of all time), Juicy- Biggie (best "I made it" song ever), Renegade - Jay-Z / Eminem (Em's verses are especially ridiculous, overall song is super dope), The World is Yours - Nas (Classic Nas, really love the jazzy piano throughout), and Daughters - John Mayer (best song to play on Mother's Day).

Being From Orlando, Do You Feel as If You're one of the leaders of the diverse music scene in that region and why?

I can't really call myself the leader just yet, but my team and I have definitely made some significant progress since we put out "Good Hip Hop Meets Radio" last year. In a little over a year, we've managed to make my name one of the most known in the city. I've opened for almost every big artist that comes through here, I won "Album of the Year" at the 2010 Orlando Hip Hop Awards, and a lot of the big DJs and radio personalities have been showing me a lot of love.

Dope, Dope, So Let's Speak Upon On Your Progression in Your Career. Good Hip Hop Meets Radio Was The Take Off To Where You're At Now, with co signs from DJBooth. net and Leaders of The New Cool, Explain how you felt throughout that process of pursuing your dream.

Not to sound cliche, but I just knew that it was the start of something really special. I felt really confident in the group of people I had around me, and the direction we wanted to go in. We made a plan, we stuck to it, and now our lives are about to change for the better. 2011 is going to be a huge year!

With that being said, Go in a little on your latest project "Dope Raps and Kit Kats."

I had so much fun making this project. I did all the production on "Good Hip Hop Meets Radio," so for this mixtape I wanted to switch things up a bit and include a couple different producers. The end result turned out to be dope beats, dope raps, and a studio with a bunch of empty Kit Kat wrappers. It's hosted by DJBooth.net, and the underlying message is just to do whatever it is you love to do. I personally love rapping and eating Kit Kats. Life is simple...do what you love!

Name some songs that you like Alot on the project and why so?

This was a very personal project, and I put a lot of emotion into every song. Of course I love all the records, but two of my favorites are "A Story Worth Filming" and "Nightfall." I love performing "A Story Worth Filming" acapella and hearing people's immediate reactions live, and "Nightfall" is a track I'm being very honest and straight-up on...maybe a little too honest. Let's just say after the mixtape dropped, I've received a few angry texts from girls I know because of that song. I'll probably hold off on asking them to be in the video...

Nice nice, before we leave, Name Your Mission in this business and Why?

I want to brand myself as an artist who consistently puts out good hip hop (dope beats, catchy hooks, and lyrical content), and hopefully inspire others to stay true to what they believe in and follow their dreams. Life is simple...do what you love!

Dope, it's nice having you my dude, Remember by Living out your dreams, Is living the modern life.

 No doubt!

Indie Watch : Childish Gambino

If You're Familiar With This Blog, You Have To Know The Name Above. If You Don't, You Been Camping Out With Bin Laden For The Last Couple of Years. This Individual Is Normally Known as Donald Glover, the actor and comedian, but he also holds another valuable asset. This Guys Lines are truly amazing, by the regiment he puts them in and his delivery is essential in his music. His style contains many hipster and indie samples that captures his witty bars and tops them off with hilarious similes, due to his comical profession.

Truly he is the future, he is reaching many listeners as of now. He has been featured in the recent CHAMPS commercial and peeking 2,000,000 views on his famous song "Freaks and Geeks". Personally, He's a automatic bid to the Indie Watch Class of 2011, because he hold so many gifts as far as rapping and he is definetly beyond others in his career as a whole, so its self explaintory when i say "Is This Guy Talented?"

The Modern Life x Dave Raps Interview

Check Out The Interview Its Finally Here.
I Caught With The Homie Dave Raps, Check The Interview.

When I say I'm surprised when I get emails that contain magnificent talent inside, I'm really surprised. This all started all around last summer when I came across this mind blowing email that involved my blog which I started a month or two ago at the time and I already had people interested in it. The first was this young but talented artist named Dave Raps , That released a impressive project, "Yes I Do, and I been highly interested in doing business with the guy ever since. His current EP , "H.Y.P.E" has to be one of the most slept on projects out now, in his verses he gives strong punchlines, cultivating metaphors, and trendy hooks to make up complete songs with splendid production. Enough of the talking and bragging on this guy, it's time to meet Em now, here is Dave Raps.

TML : Well what's up man, how's life been my man?

Dave Raps : Life's been GREAT! I've been enjoying what i can , and enduring what i must. Got a good feeling about everything though.. ;)

Nice, thats cool to hear, it's a wonderful honor that you agreed to be featured with us.

You already know mayne, thanks for supporting.

So How and When Did You Know This Business was your calling in life and why?

Really, it's just sort of how everything fell into place. I'm still learning about this Business/Industry everyday. What I do know is, I want to impact this Business like no artist ever has. So I guess you can say that's whats fueling my chase.. Not being a part of the Business, being on top of mine!

How did you fall in love with hip hop?

I fell in love with MUSIC!!! .. and it pretty much happened just like everyone else. I actually didn't start rapping until I graduated high school. But I was always a student of the game. I grew up in Yonkers listening to reggae.

What's behind the name of Dave raps?

DAVE RAPS .. its not much behind the name. It's something me and my producer S/O Vee, came up with. Just wanted a name that can give a gist of what to expect.. I liked Dave Raps. :-) , yall fellin' it??

Name Five Songs That Inspired You The Most in Life and Why.

Roses by Ye, juicy, dear summer, changes by pac, and sizzla give me a try...dont ask why for that last one...u just gotta balance shit out sometimes...haha

Since you're both from New York and Florida, Does That Give You a Edge in any way and if so, why?

Oh yea , I'm experiencing the different ways people live and interact. This gives me a lot to talk about. I got a feel of how the East Coast communicates from Florida to New York. And i can generate that into my raps, metaphors, and punchlines. Figga deal me.. (little paid in full talk) haha

Recently You Just had a productive year, with the releases of Too Unknown presented by Ashley Outrageous and H.Y.P.E., explain how you felt throughout those days.

AH MAN S/O to Ashley Outrageous, But the releases of the mixtape Too Unknown , and my EP H.Y.P.E (How Young People Evolve) felt ridiculous! You know, you sit and generate and create all this music. When you finally get a chance to release your project, then hear and see all the feedback, it's truley rewarding.. No resting though, we working out cheaa. lol

Now At Your at a stage that seemed unimaginable a few years ago, specifically how did you come with the unique acronym of HYPE and what was your main reason to actually name this project under that name.

I wanted a title that explained my growth, not just as a rapper, but as a man as well. It just popped into my head.. sounded dope, so I went with it. DOWNLOAD H.Y.P.E http://www.daveraps.com/ << my plug lol

Name the songs you liked the most and why.

My personal favorite has to be "best worst day ever" first reason has to be because the beat is on some old school Shaft shit..lolol..and thats the last track i recorded for HYPE. Let em all know is another joint i was feelin just because its on that cool inspirational tip..and you have to love songs like that

Since With that being said, what are some things we can look into in the near future?

I'm going to be out in CINCY,OH again on July 23rd, The people out there show love!! S/O to Cincinnati,OH man.. I just opened up for Chip tha Ripper on May 13th, and the showw was insane! So ya'll could look forward to that, I sure am.. oh yea that and another mixtape.. we'll see what happens. :-)

Finally before you leave, name your overall mission/purpose in this business and how do you want to be Remembered?

GREATNESS.. ..respected as a top artist and one of the best to ever do this.

Well thanks for your time, just Remember living out your dreams, living the modern life.

Modern Life x Dave Raps x High Life .. Blaahow! appreciate it.

Message From The Blogger : Just Represent Yourself

Just represent yourself

In this world, many of us might use words and blindly use them incorrectly, just

to prove a point of what we represent. Meaning represent, it's what you believe

in. It's many examples, like where you come from, your family, your school, your

athletic team, it's many things in society that holds a title next to your name.

But the question to the labels that you represent is, do they relate or

correlate with your personality in any way? Hold on to that thought throughout

this article. People are faced with decisions every day, every hour, every

minute, down to every second, and these choices you will shape your future off

your characteristics and actions at the time you made that decision. you must

have integrity and honesty, to make the right choices to represent yourself.

Thats whole point for you to live, just represent yourself in a positive ways to

inspire others to do the same and make a generation of innovative thinkers that

have integrity and confidence with themselves to make the right choices that

will reflect their representation. Personally I always been inspired by things

that I grew up on, ESPN, Old School Cartoons, Wide Varieties of Music, Creative

Thinkers, VHS Movies, ETC. The list goes on and on, but throughout that process

I named things that Represents me. Its many things I do, but they don't

represent me, I represent them. By representing yourself, you're doing things

that you love, not what you're obligated to do. All people of our society have

that feeling of breaking out to pursue their dreams, but it's ALWAYS something

that holds them back and that willingness to pursue their dreams is collapsed by

non supportive parents, harmful peers, sometimes even themselves, which is

called self-doubt. So we as the people, should represent ourselves to inspire

the ones who never had the courage to reach for the sky because the ones doing

it as the underdog were always in that position now it's time for us to show

empathy and inspire. Stop waiting for tomorrow, today we shall sign our self

declaration to change a world filled with obligations, and turn our careers into

a recreation. Just think about it? These two quotes inspired me to write this,

Marc Jackson "Do What You Love and You Will Never Work a Day in Your Life".

Ultimately Levi Maestro gave me the willingness to go under this title, "You

Don't Have to Represent Where You're From, All You Have to Do is Represent

Yourself". So I concluded this article by saying "Live Life like it's your last

day and At The End Of The Day, You Cant Be No One Else But Yourself, You Might

as Well Represent It."

Peace and Love,

Gregory "G.Class" Harris

Quote of The Day

Jay Jones - Lyrkill

Personally I Have to start off saying, this is one of the only artists i listen to that i personally know. Last Year he was the first artist i knew around my school, and he gave me helpful advice to pursue what my dream. With that being said, this guy is really experienced and really seasoned when it comes to rapping, but it seemed like he never received any recognition on these dedicated projects he released, so I wanted to be the first. Jay Jones is a 16,32, 64 bar monster that craves on banging and harmful instrumentals to paint masterpieces in the listeners mind. Matter of fact, his verses are as dedicated as Gandhi's will to make peace, as dynamic as MLK's speeches to free his people, and as heartgiving as Michael Jackson's Last Performance. So Me saying that and giving this artist that much respect, this mixtape is a MUST HEAR.
